"These lasses have been flying the banner for female metallers high and proud for the last few years, always on the circuit and promoting the horse shoes out of anything the band is up to.

CAUTION: This is not a place for children! Two songs in, and JL has scared R.O.A.R into submission and rattled the innocent bystanders down to their Doc Martens. Armed with warrior-like Slayer thrash tempos blended with a garage punk ferocity, this harsh throwback to the good old days gets the blood flowing and on the night there was no other act that came close to their brutality, especially one being spearheaded by a leathered up blonde striking at your senses like lightning bolts to an MTN tower.

Finishing off with their latest bombshell, "Damned in the deep south" raises the bar on what JL are truly capable of and sees them take another step forward in the never ending evolution of their craft."

"It is around 9pm and Junkyard Lipstick kicks off with hard, high-voltage sounds. Four, clearly distinct, musical influences fused together into one unique style. Evidently, this all-female-force’s “Punk meets Metal”-sound, has shifted from a previously more distinctive punk, to a now, dominantly metal one. This is backed with a very confident and energetic performance that lead the head-banging, foot-stomping all jumping crowd to roaring cheers and applause."

"It’s evident that the band continues to progress and Junkyard Lipstick’s continued growth is unmistakable. The crowd’s familiarity with their set-list was a tribute to the frenetic frequency at which JL gig and the spawning of the mosh pit whilst they were on stage was an emphatic stamp of approval, vindication for what these four ferocious females (forgive me for this foolhardy phrase) continue to pour into their music"

"Teasing Thrash Terrorists. Giving thrash metal a bit of lace, whips and chains, Cape-Town based JUNKYARD LIPSTICK have decided to leave us unholy highveld heathens more than just a set of racy underwear and a telephone number after wrecking Wolmer Bush Lounge six-love during their recent visit to Pretoria. “Junkyard Lipstick, an all girl band, blasted unto stage and demanded attention. Full blown theatrics combined with excellent musicians makes you sit up and take notice. With hits like “Bus”, “Hollywood” and “Autopsy” Junkyard Lipstick speak their mind with no restrictions. Can I just say I haven’t seen a girl drummer as talented as Lucinda Viljoen in quite awhile. Damn, she’s got skill.”

“Junkyard Lipstick took us into the evening, sporting new members since the last time they graced the RTR stage. Their music has definitely become a lot heavier and more structured. The older songs seem to have found the punch that was missing before. It seems that they still need to find what works for them on stage in terms of presence as the new member appear as if they haven’t quite settled yet, but nonetheless, Junkyard Lipstick has proved that nothing will stop them from making the music they love.”

“I heard the sound of thrash metal coming from ROAR upstairs, quite intrigued I went up to see who it was and behold Junkyard Lipstick, the all girl thrash/punk band. With their new line up, I was quite excited to hear their sound and with the new members it seemed that they have refined their sound and made it their own. These girls really do have balls, keeping the crowd in awe as an all girl band would do. They surprised and ranted the crowd when they covered Metallica – For Whom the Bell Tolls."

“Punk-thrash band Junkyard Lipstick was up next. I always find their sets to be a lot of fun to watch. The band is sounding tighter than ever, and seems to be moving towards a more thrash-oriented sound. More thrash metal is never a bad thing. The new lead guitarist looked more settled than when I first saw her play. Junkyard Lipstick did an excellent cover of Metallica‘s “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, which got a good response from the crowd. The song “Rosie O’Donnell”, with its sing-along chorus and catchy riffs, has come to be one of my favourites in their set. The ladies showed a more serious side with the song “Flush”, which deals with the plight of abandoned children.”

With 22:00 crept in the ferocious Junkyard Lipstick who have been turning up the heat in the music scene for around a year now and have established themselves as not only just a brilliant and professional band but also as a very organized business. Having worked with Junkyard Lipstick in December 2011 on the Out of Nowhere Siege Tour, I was looking forward to what the girls had up their sleeves and with a new line up to add to the excitement it was a fresh thrashy experience all over again. These females know how to thrash out on a stage and quite a lot of guys out there can take some notes from them, what I enjoy a hell of a lot about them is seeing the hard work that they put behind the scenes to make their performances as good as the previous or next performance they had or are going to reflect on stage. With horror make up and a whole lot of rage, Junkyard Lipstick sure knows how to please the music pallet.
